Read M. Travis Lane’s The Gravel Pit
, and consider the following questions:
- Can you draw a picture of the poem? Can you write a narrative about it? How does approaching the poem from these different directions influence your understanding of it?
The Gravel Pit
was reprinted in M. Travis Lane’s collection Touch Earth (2006) but with a slightly different layout across two pages (see the image below). Consider how the slight differences between editions might alter the meanings of various words and stanzas and their relationship to each other. Which version do you prefer, and why?
